Stuart, FL – A friend of Molly’s House, David Smythe’s answer to Gift Giving
David Smythe in the gardenAfter facing the holidays this year, David Smythe thought and thought about what to say to his family when they asked him, “What do you want for Christmas?”. Each of us probably has someone on our holiday list, birthday list, anniversary list, who already has everything. This is usually that one special person that, no matter how long and hard we think about it, we simply cannot find something that they want or need.
David wanted to address this age old question. Rather than having his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren purchase gifts directly for him, he asked that they contribute the funds they would otherwise spend on him, to Molly’s House. David shared, “My children and grandchildren have done this for me this holiday season and I am so pleased”.
David feels there are three advantages to this approach:
the giver receives an income tax deduction, as well as the feeling of satisfaction of helping others
David, who would have otherwise received gifts, feels good about helping others
Molly’s House is able to use the funds for it’s very important charitable mission of “Keeping Families Together”.
Helping others…isn’t that the very meaning of the holiday season or other dates in our lives that include giving?
